Martial Arts training is beneficial because it improves confidence, concentration and focus. It provides excellent exercise and stress relief. It promotes courtesy, discipline and self-control, and prepares the practitioner for self defense.
The Martial Arts have been portrayed in movies and on television as aggressive and violent methods of fighting. Nothing could be farther from the truth. There's so much more to the Martial Arts than just the physical fighting aspects shown in the media. Our training is not just a hobby; it's a way to realize your full potential through concentrated study and application -- both physical and mental. Martial Arts training is for everyone -- you don't have to be a great athlete to get started, but through the study of the Martial Arts, you will develop life skills that will help you achieve your personal goals, and have a positive impact on every aspect of your daily life.
Tae Kwon Do (TKD) is a Korean Martial Art, organized and perfected by General Choi Hong Hi in the 1950's. It was developed from a combination of several arts, including the ancient Korean art of Hwa Rang Do and the Okinawan/Japanese art of Karate. Today, it is the national sport of South Korea, and is an Olympic medal event as well. Based on the Theory of Power, TKD is the scientific use of the body to maximize its effectiveness. There is no other Martial Art that can match TKD in power and technique.
Our TKD course covers the patterns and step sparring necessary to advance in the traditional belt rank system. We use free sparring, bag work, and a host of different drills and exercises to sharpen our technique and focus, and promotions are awarded as each student is ready to advance. We not only provide instruction in Tae Kwon Do, but in Ju Jitsu, and practical self defense as well.
Our ground fighting techniques, known as Grappling, come to us from Ju Jitsu, a "soft" Japanese Martial Art that emphasizes throwing and joint locks over striking. Our philosophy is that a person who is trained in both Tae Kwon Do and Grappling will be well-rounded and able to defend him or herself in any physical confrontation -- whether it be on foot, or on the ground. Furthermore, being skilled in a soft art gives the practitioner the option of neutralizing a potential threat without causing any harm.
Our self defense curriculum comes from both of our martial arts disciplines, and concentrates on practical strategies that work in real world situations. We practice awareness and prevention in addition to how to defend ourselves if necessary. Taken as a whole, and practiced with the proper attitude, our system will help you to realize your full potential -- both inside and outside the DoJang.
